Newsletter - 16 September 2025

It’s now less than a week until my very first solo exhibition. I feel I’ve done what I can to prepare, and my hope is that each piece will share a glimpse of the little “otogi” stories I see in the world.

Just as we humans each carry our own stories, I feel that nature, animals, and even unseen presences also have stories of their own. My paintings are my way of expressing these quiet tales, which I like to call otogi. I would be so happy if you could sense even a small part of that in the works.

Having lived almost half my life in New Zealand and half in Japan, my art naturally reflects both places. This exhibition is something I can create only at this moment in my life, and I hope it will be a warm, relaxed space for everyone.

The show includes 16 original paintings, along with art prints, tote bags, and sticker packs. Since it’s the school holidays, I’ll also have a little origami table for children to enjoy.

To you receiving this newsletter:

As a small thank-you, I’d love to offer something special. Just tell me you’re on the newsletter and share your name at the gallery, and you’ll receive:

  • One of my Art Print (A6, square, or mini-square)

  • A reusable tote bag

It’s my way of showing appreciation for your support. Please feel free to come and say hello - I’d be delighted to give it to you!

I’ll be so happy if you can come by, whether on opening night or during the week, to find a little story within the works. I’m really looking forward to seeing you 💜
